Jan Stava, basse

In spite of his young age, Jan Stava already appeared as a soloist on the stages of several opera houses:  highlights of the last seasons were his debut at the BBC Proms in a concert performance of Smetana's Dalibor in May 2015 unter the baton of Jiri Belohlavek and his debut at Opera de Paris in the last season in Strauss Rosenkavalier as police inspector.

At the Estates Theater in Prague, the site of the first performance of Mozart's Don Giovanni, he sang in a new production of the very same opera the part of Leporello. At this historical Mozart-Theater he also sang in the first cast Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro. The Smetana festival engaged him for a new production of Purcell's The Fairy Queen.

In the 2016/17 season he will return ti the Estates Theater in Prague a.o. as Bartolo and Leporello. In Brno he will have his role debut as Gouverneur in Le Comte Ory.The Opéra National de Lorraine Nancy invited him to sing Truffaldino in Ariadne auf Naxos.

Due to his great acting talent Jan Stava was hired in the past as Osmin for the new production of Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the opera houses of Montpellier and Nantes / Angers in 2012/13 and as a result he performed at the Opéra de Toulon the role of Alidoro in Rossini ' s Cenerentola.

Previous concert highlights were his interpretation of Dvorak's Requiem with the Orchestre National de Lyon and with the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn. With the NDR Radiophilharmonie he excelled in an aria evening and received great reaction from the audience and the press. His concert repertoire include a.o. Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Seven Last Words of Christ, Missa dominicalis and Missa Pastoralis by Brixi, Dvorak's Biblical Songs and Haydn 's Creation.

In 2012 Jan Stava participated at the Young Singers Project in Salzburg. He won several important competitions, including the Bohuslav Martinu Competition in Prague, the Dusek Competition and the Prague Singer Contest. His talent was also recognized by Jose Cura, who awarded him a special prize for the most gifted singer of his own masterclasses in Nancy.

Jan Stava studied singing at the National Janacek Academy of Music in Brno.
